The Story of This Carpet
Sultanabad and Mahal carpets represent a Persian carpet school with large palmettes and loose all-over compositions that entered the Western European market at the end of the 19th century through Ziegler & Co. Afghan masters continue this tradition using their own Ghazni wool and Chobi natural palette; the wool is dyed for weeks in plant extracts, then washed in sunlight and running water to achieve a faded patina.
Why a Single-Piece Handwoven Afghan Carpet
- Authenticity: Unique piece.
- Natural dye durability: Does not fade.
- Ghazni wool: Silky shine.
- Asymmetric Persian knot: Sharp detail.
- Investment value: Appreciates over time.
Color and Pattern
Large Mahal palmettes and open lotus rosettes arranged in horizontal rows on a petrol blue background; intertwined with spiral branches and leaf clusters. Copper, golden yellow, pomegranate red, and ivory accents create a warm light effect on the ground. The wide cinnamon-toned outer border features a palmette frieze, while the inner border has a fine ivory meander. The generous scale is a signature of the Sultanabad style.
Care Recommendations
- Vacuum with a brushless low-speed setting.
- Blot stains with a white cloth.
- Rotate every 6 months.
- For wet cleaning, consult a professional carpet cleaner.
The generous scale of the Sultanabad Mahal transforms this runner into a classic corridor piece.
Protect Elegance
A delicate care routine should be adopted to preserve the original splendor and silky texture of handwoven and natural fiber Carpetdocia pieces that add value to your living space for generations.
Immediate Action and Liquid Contact
Timing is the most critical factor in case of possible liquid spills. Use a clean, slightly damp cloth to gently blot the liquid from the surface without rubbing. Always perform this action in the direction of the carpet’s nap (the natural direction of the fibers). Rubbing can damage the shape of delicate fibers like TENCEL™ and viscose. Stop the intervention immediately if you have any doubts.
Routine Care and Light Balance
Always prefer vacuum cleaners with low suction power in your weekly cleaning routine. High-powered upright vacuums and stiff brushes can damage the natural structure of handwoven yarns. To balance the reaction of natural fibers to light and prevent regional tone differences (fading), we recommend changing the orientation of your carpet every 2 to 6 months.
Expert Touch (Professional Cleaning)
Noble textures such as handwoven, TENCEL™, viscose, and New Zealand wool should not come into contact with household chemical cleaners. These products can irreversibly damage the silky shine and structural integrity of the carpet. For deep cleansing, support should be sought only from professional carpet care centers specialized in natural fibers.
Washing Instructions
Delicate pieces in the Carpetdocia collections are not suitable for machine washing due to their structure. (Only specific models clearly labeled "Washable" in their name can be washed in household machines on a low heat and delicate cycle.)
